Advent

Depending on how you celebrate, the first day of Advent has either already arrived (November 27) or will begin on Thursday (December 1).

Last year was our family's first time to do an Advent celebration. We used the Jesse Tree Devotional by Ann Voskamp. It was such a wonderful way to keep our focus on Christ during the Christmas season. This year, Phillip and I will once again read from Ann Voskamp's devotional, but I have chosen a different Advent devotional to do with the boys.

Each day you do a Scripture reading and story, and then you make a really cute ornament. It is a great devotional for young children and I am excited to go through with the boys. You can purchase your own here for only $4.99.

It comes with printable pictures you can hide in a pocket type of Advent calendar or a printable to make a paper chain. I think we are going to go with the paper chain version this year because I know that Little Man will take everything out of the pockets the first day. Plus, making a paper chain will be a fun thing to make together.

My plan is to make the ornaments during the day while the boys and I are home. Then when Phillip gets home, we will light a candle and do the devotional as a family. The boys can then take turns showing their Daddy the ornament they made and hang it on the small tree in their playroom.

Because I love all things creative, I thought I would share some pictures of some cute Advent calendars that I found on Pinterest.
